Stronger protection at vulnerable roof junctions
The leak was viewed widely
We inspect nearby coverings and drainage paths as well as the visible lead.
Movement considered
We form joints and laps with natural expansion and contraction in mind.
NFRC membership
Our recognised roofing membership supports informed contractor checks.
Protect the places where roof surfaces meet
Leadwork guides rain away from some of a roof's most exposed details. At chimneys, abutments, valleys and penetrations, poor formation or movement can leave water a route inside. We carry out roof leadwork in Earls Barton as part of repair, renewal and complete roofing projects. Splits, lifting edges and failed fixings need proper assessment, but the surrounding tiles, pointing and drainage path matter too. Replacing visible lead alone may not cure the problem if water is entering higher up or being held against the junction.

Movement allowed for in every detail
Lead expands and contracts as temperatures change. Suitable sizing, laps, joints and fixings allow that natural movement without placing needless strain on the material. We inspect the shape and purpose of the detail before deciding whether local repair or renewal is appropriate. Our NFRC membership provides a relevant credential when you are choosing a contractor for technical roof detailing. More importantly, we treat the lead as part of the surrounding roof so the finished junction directs water away rather than merely looking tidy from the scaffold.
Frequently asked questions
Can split roof leadwork be repaired?
Some contained defects may suit repair, depending on position, condition and the reason for failure. Widely fatigued, poorly formed or repeatedly patched lead may require renewal. We inspect the complete detail before explaining the scope.
Why does leadwork move after installation?
Lead responds to temperature changes by expanding and contracting. Correct bay sizes, laps, joints and fixings allow that movement. If a detail is restrained or formed poorly, stress can contribute to lifting or splitting.
Could nearby tiles be causing the apparent lead leak?
Yes. Water may enter through a covering or junction above the visible stain and then track towards the lead detail. We assess adjacent tiles or slates, pointing, underlay and likely drainage routes before settling on the cause.
